Pre-K and Kinder Begin the Year with Study of Self

Pre-K and Kindergarten studied their own faces in a mirror. They looked at shapes, sizes, and positions of their facial features - eyes, nose, mouth, etc. The students then learned how to tear paper shapes and glue: - dot - dot - not a lot. The results -mosaic self-portraits.

Impressionist Exhibit At Houston MFA Leaves Impression on Art Club Kids

Benavidez Art Club Kids took an end of year field trip to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to see the visiting Impressionist Exhibition from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Students viewed paintings by Monet, Van Gogh, Seraut, Renior, Degas, and many other famous Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists. The students studied both of these periods in art history and created their own Impressionist landscapes in pastels. Everyone had a wonderful time and were excited about seeing these masterpieces.

Mexican Folk Art

Students studied the folk art of Josefina Aguilar from Oaxaca, Mexico. She crafts everyday figures from clay. Students created the original form with clay and then used Crayola model magic to make the details. Each of the figures are individuals just like the artists who designed them.

Art Club Kids Explore Sumi-e Painting

Sumi-e painting the Japanese way requires students to make their own ink and study the special brushstrokes used to create flowers and bamboo.

Ode to Van Gogh - Sunflowers

Students in grades Pre-K - 5 studied the art of Vincent Van Gogh. We created a still life of sunflowers so that we could use the same techniques as Vincent. We hope that you enjoy our work. Younger students used watercolors and fourth and fifth graders painted with acrylic on canvas.

Van Gogh and The Sunflowers - Drawing from Life

Vincent Van Gogh loved to paint from observation. This rotation, we studied Van Gogh's bright beautiful paintings and especially the "Twelve Sunflowers". We set up a still life of five sunflowers to draw from observation. It is not as easy as it looks! Come back to see our finished paintings.

More Monet Monet Monet

Art students studied light, reflection, environment and atmosphere in looking at the art of Claude Monet. The children compared the haystacks and even made a virtual visit to Monet's garden to see the waterlily pond and the Japanese footbridge.

Monet, Impressionism, and Memory Landscapes

Students in grades 1- 5 studied the art of Claude Monet. They imagined a beautiful place in their mind they remembered seeing in the past. They recreated that place in a memory landscape. Students made their Impressionist Landscapes using pastels. The Fifth Grade Art Club will be going to the Museum of Fine Arts in May to see the Impressionist Exhibit from the National Gallery in Washington, D. C.

Rodeo Ideas

Students in Grades 1-5 studied the New Mexico Landscapes of Georgia O'Keeffe to create interesting backgrounds for their cowboys and cowgirls. Students used oil pastels and images from photographs Mrs. Stewart took on a recent trip to Ghost Ranch in New Mexico to create their artworks. Emphasis on horizon line, foreground, middle ground and background were accented in each original work. The students will continue to study landscape painting in different mediums throughout the school year.
